On 1 September, Österreichische Post AG will increase its rates for letters and parcels posted as “letters.” They are allowed an adjustment equal to the inflation rate, i.e., around 10 percent on average. Some products, however, will be increased more.
The “standard letter” will even be 5 cents cheaper if it is allowed to be slower in return: this is in response to a customer need, says Post boss Georg Pölzl. So if you post a simple letter with a stamp, you pay “only” 95 cents. In return, the item is on its way for 2-3 days. In the past, it was one working day and cost one euro, in future you will pay € 1.20 for the higher transport speed. Only 35% of letters or small parcels must be delivered on the next working day.
If you want this (“Prio-Brief”), you pay a little more, and the international rates also increase. You must go to the counter or buy “Prio labels” in advance. The capacities freed up by the letter business, which has been shrinking for years, are needed for parcels, where Pölzl expects growth again this year.

And these are the rates: The Eco-Brief S will cost 95 cents instead of 81 cents as of 1 September. The Prio-Brief S will then cost 1.20 instead of 1.00 euros. The Eco Business letter will then cost 92 instead of 78 cents. And sending international letters will also become more expensive. In future, the Eco letter can be posted in the post boxes. “Stamps will only be used for the Eco-Brief as of 1 September,” said Pölzl.
